Taking a break

In January I decided that I was going to do something new every month. I decided that I didn’t want to do just a list of resolutions. I, like many others, don’t stick with them. This year I decided to do this. Well, it is July now and I figured I should probably check back in. In February I gave up coffee. I honestly didn’t think that would be hard. I honestly didn’t think I was addicted. Then I didn’t have any for 24 hrs and I thought I was going to die. A month of ThanksMy head was throbbing and I could hardly stay awake. It took about 3 days for the head ache to go away. I drank lots of water and after the initial week I felt a lot better. I also found that I slept better at night.

March came in with a bang, literally. Our family was rear-ended by a city garbage truck, but that is a post for another day.

157008_812003972159018_1702888058_nIn March the mommy fitness group that I am part of on facebook had a clean eating challenge. This entailed eating clean and no processed food. This was probably the easiest challenge so far this year. I did have to give up pasta and dry cereal but I kept my homemade bread. I figured since I knew every ingredient that was in it and where those ingredients came from I was ok eating that.  f416e-522306_549817025044382_1752639524_n5b15dI did find out through this challenge that my body does not do well with a diet of no carbs. I actually started to feel sick. I got really shaky and weak. After doing some research and talking to some of my friends, that feeling happens a lot more then I realized.

In April I tried a new work-out. I started Jillian Michaels 30 Day shred. You can watch more about that here. I really enjoyed this work out. It was the perfect length to do while my kids were napping/having quiet time. Yet, it was really intense. I would be dripping with sweat at the end of it.

May and June kinda fell by the way side. I quit tracking my food, started drinking coffee again and just stopped taking care of myself. It happens easily. You put it off one day because you are just tired or you run out of hours in your day. Running out of hours in the day happens a lot for me. For some reason I can keep up with laundry and the house but I can’t work-out or do special activities with my kids OR I can do fun activities with my kids and work out but laundry and the house fall behind. If anyone has the secret to do it all please share with me and the others that feel like something is wrong with them.

Well, that now brings us to July. I decided that outside of my sugar addiction I also had/have an addiction to Facebook. So, for the month of July I am off of facebook. When we sat down to plot out our month my husband and I realized that we were crazy busy. We had Tball twice a week for the firefighter. You can read more about that here. Our church had vacation bible school, our anniversary, 4th of July and my parents and sister were coming for a visit. Talk about running out of hours in my day… I decided that I didn’t have enough of me to go around so I chose my family for the month of July.

It has been a trying experience. Most of my adult interaction is through facebook. I really missed my friends and feeling like I was missed. I missed talking to adults and having some grown up humor in my day. It is July 25 and I am back on facebook to a point. I am not spending endless hours on there anymore but I am there talking with my friends again and it is wonderful!

For the month of August, well, it will be a long month. My husband leaves for Annual training with the Army on the 31st of July and we won’t see him till the 22nd of August. I already have my racing with plans for the kids and I to keep busy.

Anyway, to get back to the point. Doing something different every month this year has really helped me keep on track. It seems that changing it up keeps me going. Knowing that there will be something new in just a week, or a few days helps me want to finish out the challenge for that month. It gives me a shorter window to achieve something.

  1. Sounds like an awesome way of doing things. A step at a time, kind of thing. Challenges are always great as well for focusing on one or more things, to change for the better! Love that.
