Setting a healthy Example for my kids.

I haven’t always been fat or out of shape. In all honesty I have always been in shape. I was always active, then I got pregnant and took the phrase, ‘eating for 2’ literally. The day after I had lost all that baby weight I found out I was pregnant with my 2nd. Now I didn’t gain as much with her but I did gain some.  Then came the deep hole of depression. 3 yrs later I am finally pulling myself back up and getting it together. I am slowly realizing that the only way that I will get healthy is to make it a priority. I have to do this for me and no one else.

fit mamaWhen that switch happened in my head exercising wasn’t a chore anymore. It has taken some work to get some help, I can’t always take my kids with me, but when it is important it works out. Now don’t get me wrong, at first people will think you are just faking it and you won’t last. That is part of the challenge for me, proving them wrong! I have had several say, ‘yes we will help you’ but in the end they really only say that because they think I won’t keep going and when I do they back out. I encourage you to not let that make you quit. There is ALWAYS a way. Other people not believing in you is no reason for you to give up. It should only give you ammunition to keep going and prove them wrong!

exampleNow, I agree, it is so much easier to have time to exercise with out the kids but sometimes that isn’t possible. So the next best thing is to either take the kids with you or do a work out video at home. Now that last one is really simple. It just requires you to have a TV and some kind of player. A DVD at home is one that I like to save for the cold winter days of MT. So, I have been taking my kids with my. The firefighter has been running with me. He is an amazing encouragement and if I could siphon even 1/3 of his energy I could be running a marathon by now.

run Well today was a rest day for running. In all honesty, it is Sunday so I wasn’t planning on doing anything. I was going to take my rest day and rest. Then, I made the mistake of letting my princess chose what movie she wanted to watch. This is what she chose…

032Now, I have done this DVD before. I have actually completed the 30 days and really enjoyed it. It wasn’t what I had planned for my Sunday but who can resist a 3 yr old challenging you to a work our. So, I took her challenge.

waterbottle weights                                             jumping jacks

I can honestly say that I was impressed with how she did. She learned how to do squats, crunches, jumping jacks and push ups. Her face at times looked like mine I am sure.

oh the painI am pretty sure that this was what my faced looked like during the 2nd set of squats….

jump squatThe concentration that she used to accomplish the moves was amazing!

reverse crunchI would give anything to have her flexibility!

I can honestly say that my children are my #1 inspiration to keep going with my work outs. There are days that I want to give up and then one of them challenges me to a run or a work out and who can turn that down. I hope you found some humor in this and remember

  1. We were friends on FB when I was on FB, so I am following you on Instagram. Last week while I was out pushing myself to walk, I thought about all of your Instagram posts and I turned on my C25K app and pushed myself just a little further. Thanks for the inspiration! My family and I are embarking on a 30 day challenge together to get fit both physically and spiritually.

  2. I love that your kids keep you accountable and motivated to keep going! Working out regularly is my next goal… Little Bee loves when I run with him in the stroller. He laughs and laughs! 🙂 I just need to do it more often!!!

  3. I need your motivation! I included my son in my workout a few weeks ago and he thought my kettle bell lunges were hysterical LOL so I”m always laughed at when I work out with him :] But it makes working out even more fun! I just have a hard time sticking to it!

    • I am slowly learning that motivation is a mental thing. Just as much as it being a mental thing if you finish a hard work out or not. Keep it up! They do eventually stop laughing at you… at least for a a while anyway…

    • You’ve got it! Even 10 mins a day is better then none! Even doing squats while u wait for water to boil. My motivation went down hill and then I joined a mommy fitness group on Facebook that has monthly challenges.

  4. Good for you! I haven’t even started working out yet since my son was born. Great to see that it’s possible with kids, and what a fun thing to exercise together!

  5. Thanks for sharing! Keep up the good work. My motto is, “the hardest part of running is putting on your shoes.” When I feel like coming up with an excuse not to run I just go put my shoes on.
